Opelika police have identified a high school student who was arrested in connection to the shooting death of a former Opelika High School student.

Vantavious Hughley, 17, is charged as an adult for the murder of Alizah Ellis. His bond has been set at $150,000.

On Monday, July 21 Opelika police responded to the Edmond Avenue area in reference to a shooting. There they found 17-year-old Ellis suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. Ellis was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center and later died of his injuries during surgery.

Police say they are still trying to determine a possible motive. Hughley was a student at Opelika High School.
