Offseason not complete without Spurrier jabs about Clemson

Because no offseason is complete without delivering a few one-liners, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier sent a few sailing over into Clemson coach Dabo Swinney's direction on Tuesday during an interview with ESPN.

Spurrier was asked to discuss recent comments from Swinney at ACC Media Days where the Tigers coach talked about his relationship with the Head Ball Coach.

"He's from Pluto and I'm from Mars," said Swinney.

Here comes vintage Spurrier.

"Dabo probably thinks there's only, what, nine planets out there," said Spurrier. "I think I read where Pluto may not be considered one now."

For those of you cracking open your kid's middle school textbook over the sounds of your own giggles, yes, Pluto is no longer a planet.

Spurrier didn't stop there, obviously. When asked about Swinney's comments at the end of the Orange Bowl where he took a swipe at South Carolina's non-existent BCS bowl record, Spurrier offered another jab after admitting his team has never been to the BCS dance.

"I'll admit to that, although we beat them about every year. They get there and we don't. That's just the way it is. The SEC can only send two teams and the ACC sends two. We've got too many good teams going."

And to think there's still over a month left until the season kicks off. The Gamecocks take on the Texas A&M Aggies on Aug. 28 at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Tigers, meanwhile, head to Georgia to take on the Bulldogs on Aug. 30.
