Teachers bring space into their classrooms with Teachers in Space

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Teachers from across the country were in Columbus tonight, July 22, learning how to bring space into their classrooms.

It's all part of the summer program sponsored by "Teachers in Space." The workshop prepares teachers to send student ideas into space aboard balloons or rockets.

The teachers will launch, chase, and recover three high altitude balloons released at the same time that can reach heights over 1,000 feet.

"Teachers that are here are motivated, they are talented, and they go out of their way to teach kids. It is magnificent to be associated with such a really great group. Teachers in space is the best of the best and it's an honor to be the part of that group," says Scott Lee Wiley, Aerospace Meteorologist.

The balloon launch took place in Rochelle, Ga. on July 23.
