Mayor presents awards at 2014 Disabilities Awareness Day

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities celebrated the outstanding achievements of people with disabilities in the community on Thursday.

Additionally, they recognized those who help strive to raise awareness and advocate making Columbus a better place to live, work, and play.

"A lot of people with disabilities don't get recognized for their contributions," said organizer Mitzi Oxford. "You know people with disabilities are just like me and you, they just have different abilities."

Disabilities Awareness Day was held at the Columbus Civic Center. Mayor Teresa Tomlinson presented several awards to those serving the disabled community.
