Agents of the Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control Board found and destroyed several marijuana plants on Wednesday.

Agents discovered the plants while exploring a wooded area in the southeastern corner of Marengo County. A subsequent search of a nearby residence turned up additional cannabis.

ABC agents were conducting a rural woodland operation near the Vineland Community when they encountered a suspect. The plants were growing near where agents encountered the suspect.

After questioning, the suspect agreed to allow the agents to search his home. That is where agents found an additional 142 grams of marijuana, already packaged for sale.

The plants were valued at $2,000 each and the packaged marijuana is estimated to be worth $1,500.

An arrest and formal charges are pending further investigation.

Anyone who has any information about this case or any other illegal activity is encouraged to call the ABC Board Hotline at 1-800-327-7341.
