Jerry W. Johnson, 54, from Opelika, Ala. was arrested after police say he attempted to cash a forged check.

Police responded to a call of a forgery in progress at a bank located in the 2000 block of Bent Creek Rd at around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22. Responding officers were given the description of someone that had entered the bank, and presented a forged check for payment that was written on the account of a local business.

Johnson matched the description given, and officers contacted him in a parking lot near the bank. They recovered the forged check in Johnson's possession, took him into custody and charged him with Possession of a Forged Instrument Second Degree.

Johnson was later transported to the Lee County Detention Facility where his bond was set at $3,000.
