MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Asheville, NC based Tupelo Honey Café is making its way to Myrtle Beach and will offer made-from-scratch Mountain South cuisine to guests at the old Tommy Bahama Restaurant on Howard Avenue in Market Common.

While the company already has seven successful locations, Elizabeth Sims with Tupelo Honey Cafe explained the restaurant doesn't want the public to think of it as a chain-restaurant, but as Myrtle Beach's very own version of the southern-style restaurant.

"Every location is different. We like to pay homage to the place itself, using local artists and designing it around the location," said Sims. She added the building will have recycled windows and doors.

The company is in the process of renovating the building. The new restaurant will feature entrees like shrimp and grits, sweet potato pancakes and specialty crafted cocktails and local beers, according to a press release. Ingredients will come from area farms and restaurant décor created by regional artists.

The 8,000 square foot restaurant will have 270 seats with a full bar and outdoor seating, according to the release.

"The new Market Common location will have the distinct spirit native to the beach destination, but with the quality dishes that patrons have enjoyed since the original Tupelo Honey opened in Asheville 14 years ago," said Owner and CEO Steve Frabitore. "We will also continue our local community outreach in schools and with great causes in the Grand Strand area."

The restaurant currently operates seven other locations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
