Three officials with the West Chilton County Volunteer Fire Department are under arrest and charged in connection to an ongoing investigation into theft of fire department funds.

State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk's office identified the three suspects as Donna Tate, 40, Apache Corona, 39, and Steve Tate, 44. The Tates are husband and wife.

Donna Tate and Apache Corona, arrested Tuesday, were listed as Treasurers of the VFD. Both are charged with first degree theft of property and Tate also faces a first degree extortion charge. Corona's bond is set at $50,000 while Tate's is $100,000.

Steve Tate was arrested Wednesday and charged with first degree extortion and first degree theft. Paulk's office confirmed the man is a Chilton County Sheriff's deputy as well as the VFD's fire chief. He's being held on a $100,000 bond.

District Attorney Randall Houston's office is withholding the mug shots of each person at this time.

The fire marshal's investigation is still ongoing.
