Law Day for Boys in Columbus

The young ladies of Girls, Inc. had their chance in June to get a look at the inner workings of the law, and Thursday, July 31, was the boys' turn.

The young men participated in mock trials in the courtroom at the Columbus Government Center. They were able to see how different positions of the judicial system work.

Attorney Katonga Wright says it gives the young boys something else to look forward to in the future.

"Many of the boys here have dreams of being in athletics andprofessional sports, and that's common among boys," Wright says. "But ofcourse, we all know the likelihood of that happening is probably about onepercent. So we want to give them some alternatives, and hopefully through theirexperience here, they will find one of those careers that interest them, thatcan become their plan B if the sports thing doesn't work out."

This is the first year of Law Day for Boys. The Boys and Girls Club of the Chattahoochee Valley helped get the more than 50 young men together to take part in the day's activities.
