Police searching for gas station shooting suspect

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police have identified the suspect in a shooting at a gas station that left one person injured.

Authorities say 35-year-old Chandler Saxton shot the victim at the Big Cat Gas Station on Buena Vista Road in Columbus just before 8 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses say the victim was ambushed at the gas pumps and shot multiple times.

Police say the victim was also armed and tried to return fire, but he did not hit anyone.

Witnesses said the victim appeared lifeless and was covered in blood as he was taken to the hospital. At about 11 p.m. Thursday, authorities said the victim was still alive and in surgery. The victim's condition is unknown at this time.

Police say Saxton is still on the loose. According to investigators, a warrant has been issued for Saxton's arrest. If you have any information on his whereabouts, you're asked to call police at (706)653-3400.
