AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Normal communication has been restored at the City of Auburn facilities after being down for most of the day on Friday, Aug. 1.

The lights were on at the Auburn Police Division, but that was about all after a power surge around 10 a.m.

Phone lines, internet and all communication were out of order for the City of Auburn facilities due to a severed fiber-optic line. Emergency 911 calls were rerouted to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, then dispatched to APD.

Construction crews were working on a drain pipe located just behind the Auburn Police Division building, and using heavy equipment to dig when they accidentally cut through the main and back-up power supply. The lines had not been properly marked.

Crew members worked all day to restore communication at the City of Auburn facilities.
