CSU Dance Conservatory hosts open house for new students

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The CSU Dance Conservatory will host a New Student Open House at the Rankin Arts Center on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. until noon.

New students will be evaluated and placed in their appropriate levels at the Open House. Center Stage Dancewear will be on site with leotards, tights, skirts, warmers, pointe shoes and more.

Lisa Carter, the new Director of the Columbus State University Dance Conservatory, will be available during the Open House to greet parents and students and to answer questions about the upcoming dance session. Lisa Carter serves a dual role as the CSU Dance Conservatory Director and the Columbus Ballet Artistic/Executive Director.

As an examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance, Ms. Carter has traveled around the world teaching students and training teachers, a wonderful experience that gave her the opportunity to observe different pedagogical styles, network with other teachers and observe many performances and competitions. She holds degrees and certificates in Dance, Music and Liberal Studies from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, the Royal Academy of Dance, London, United Kingdom and Creighton University in the United States.

Ms. Carter's areas of expertise include ballet, pedagogy, choreography and dance research especially focused on dance and its health benefits. She has also attended and been invited to teach at international summer schools, winter schools, dance festivals, national and international workshops and ballet examiner conferences around the world and has attended many workshops led by master teachers.

New conservatory classes will be available beginning in August include Boys Acrobatics, Girls Acrobatics and Jazz for all ages.

Headquartered in the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center, Continuing Education at Columbus State University offers innovative, high quality, flexible classes and programs for local families and businesses. Dance classes are held primarily at the Rankin Arts Center, part of the CSU RiverPark campus in downtown Columbus.
