The new Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base commissary held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday to officially open the complex.

The grand opening began with the ribbon cutting ceremony and then doors were open for the commissary-authorized shoppers. Terry Ford, the store director, says the shoppers were greeted with a host of special sales activities and prizes.

"Since it's just next door, our customers have seen the new store go up from the day construction began and we're all excited to provide the commissary benefit through such a fine facility," said Ford. I tell customers that as good as it looks on the outside, they will really be impressed by how much better their shopping experience will be once they get inside."

The new features of the complex include a spacious interior with high ceilings and attractive interior that make shopping a pleasant experience, expanded frozen and chilled sections and an extensive selection of fresh produce, meat and grocery departments. Also it features an international delicatessen.

The store itself is nearly a third larger than the size of the old store. It's design also features equipment to make it a more environmentally friendly place.

Defense Commissary Agency industry partners and vendors gave out commissary gift cards and other prizes for the grand opening, Ford said.
