Good Tuesday Evening!
Today was a relatively quiet day, although quite warm! Temperatures peaked in the mid to upper 80s in many parts of the state and in a few locations the temperature came very close to the 90 degree mark. The official high at Bradley International Airport was 89 degrees. However, the humidity trended downward this afternoon. In fact, the dew point dipped into the 50s over interior portions of the state. A few showers popped up here and there, but the heavier shower and thunderstorm activity remained in Pennsylvania, New York, and Northern New England.
A cold front will approach Southern New England tonight. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Bertha will pass well to the south and east of Nantucket. A few showers and thunderstorms could make their way into Connecticut tonight, but they will tend to weaken with the setting sun. Overnight lows will range from the upper 50s to the mid 60s and we may have to deal with some patchy fog by early tomorrow morning.
The cold front will settle very close to the coast of Southern New England tomorrow. That means it will be close enough for a few showers and thunderstorms to fire up during the afternoon. Some storms could be strong and may produce heavy downpours and hail. However, they will be hit or miss. Tomorrow should be slightly cooler than today with highs in the low and mid 80s. Plus, the humidity won't be too bad.
The cooler air will settle in nicely tomorrow night. The mercury will dip into the 50s and lower 60s by dawn Thursday and that will make for some nice sleeping weather. Thursday will be a very comfortable day outdoors with low humidity and highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. However, there will be a pool of cool, unstable air aloft. That means sunshine will mix with a lot of clouds during the afternoon and a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms can't be ruled out. A few of these storms could produce small hail within Southern New England since the upper regions of the atmosphere will be quite chilly and the freezing level will be relatively low.
The atmosphere will stabilize by the end of the workweek and that means there will be less cloudiness developing during the day Friday. It'll be another very comfortable day with morning lows in the 50s and afternoon highs around or just over 80 degrees.
The weekend looks great too! High pressure will bring partly to mostly sunny skies both Saturday and Sunday. It'll be seasonably warm with highs in the mid 80s in many locations, but humidity levels should remain in the comfortable range. Very little change in the weather can be expected for early next week!
Have a terrific week!
