COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus law enforcement officials were making the rounds today, August 5, for national night out.
This is the 14th year Columbus has participated in the nation-wide event, aimed at raising crime prevention awareness in the valley.
Columbus officials say this is an important night for the community.
"It is showing that we're serious about having a reduction in crime. It's about neighbors watching neighbors to make sure it's a safer city to play, work and have fun," says SGT. Donald Bush of the Columbus police department.
Officials hope tonight's event will send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are partnering with police and fighting back against crime in Columbus.
