COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Actor Robin Williams has passed away this afternoon. Law enforcement officials say Williams was found dead in his California home today, August 11, north of San Francisco.
They say the 63 year old Oscar winner apparently died from suicide caused by asphyxia. Williams' press agent said he had recently been battling severe depression.
People across the valley say the actor will be missed.
"Oh no, one of the funniest guys I've ever heard. I'm so sorry."
"We saw him in concert a couple of years ago in Atlanta and he was just absolutely fabulous, so it's a real loss for the comedy community."
"He was part of my childhood, which is something I'll remember. My brother doesn't even know he was the genie for Aladdin which is pretty funny. So he will be missed."
Robin Williams won his Academy Award in a dramatic role, as a teacher in the 1997 film "Good Will Hunting." He also won three Golden Globes, for "Good Morning, Vietnam," ''Mrs. Doubtfire" and "The Fisher King."
