COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Community organizations come together tonight, August 11, at the Columbus City Services Center for the Moral Monday demonstration.
The event is aimed at putting a more positive stamp on the community.
Organizers say their mission was to talk with elected officials about the actions they take concerning the community.
Local NAACP president, Nate Sanderson says they are particularly concerned about the recent string of violence in the area, "Our issues may not necessary be the same issues that Savannah has or Atlanta has. We have issues that are pertinent to us here in Columbus. And top of mind right now is the number of murders that have taken place in our community."
Organizers of the event also say they hope to give minorities a voice that can be heard by those in power through dialogue, debate and discussion.
