Meet the Royals' seamstress

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Royals are rising – they are in first place in the American League Central Division and Thursday they bested the Oakland A's.

The team was looking sharp, as always, and it's all thanks to an important member of the team many may not know about.

With a little blue thread Bev Vratney is ready to go. She works her sewing machine in a small corner at Kauffman Stadium.

"This is one of our outfield experience people," she explains as she works.

Vratney fixes uniforms for all Royals employees. She's been doing this for 19 years and she takes personal pride in the Royals looking good in their work clothes.

"They're my guys. Why wouldn't I be proud of them?" she said.

If someone rips their pants sliding into second base, Vratney goes into one of her special drawers and finds a scrap of fabric. Then she sews on a patch and the pants are ready for wearing the next day.

She's also the seamstress for the Royals mascot, Sluggerrr, and umpires. With grey scraps Vratney even helped a pantsless member of the Cleveland Indians.

But it's the Royals that Vratney loves and even though she's never met any of the players, she has a strong bond with them.

"I feel like I know them. I've been in every single one of their pants pretty much," she said with a joking smile.

From her little corner of the stadium, Vratney roots hard for the Royals, while she keeps them dress for their playoff run.

"I'm excited, I'm so excited. These are my guys. I love them, I love them!" she said.
