NIM hosts Soldiers To Summits event

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Soldiers To Summits Support Wall has made its first stop in Columbus.

Visitors, graduating soldiers and their families are using a specially created electronic kiosk to make messages of support for wounded veterans at the National Infantry Museum with help from Wells Fargo.

The veterans are taking part in the Soldiers To Summits program which helps them overcome physical, mental and emotional barriers.

"They are climbing a mountain so physical ability but it's really not, there's workshops along the way and the camaraderie between the 14 of them because they're all fighting the same battle of getting back in and overcoming," explained Ashley Hawthorne, District Manager for Wells Fargo Columbus South market.

Fourteen veterans from across the country are training to scale Colorado's Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous U.S.
