Correctional officer fired after allegedly assaulting girlfriend

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A correctional officer from the Muscogee County Jail has been fired for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Columbus Police say Keith Searcy was arrested Sunday night for physically assaulting Laresha Harper and forcing her into his car. The arrest took place at 510 10th Street by the Columbus Police Department.

Officials tell us that Searcy has been terminated and should have received paperwork at this time.

Police say the assault happened Sunday, Aug. 17 in the 900 block of 23rd Street in Columbus.

According to Police, the victim managed to escape. She did not receive medical treatment after the alleged assault.

Searcy is facing several charges including kidnapping, family violence, and aggravated assault.
