LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Lawrence County investigators said a traffic stop led to the arrest of two people on drug charges following the discovery of meth-making materials.

It happened in the Town Creek area, when agents conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by Joseph Lee Goodwin.

Agents reported finding pseudoephedrine and an unopened pack of lithium batteries. When Goodwin was questioned about the items, Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Goodwin claimed they belonged to Kayla Dianne Keenum.

Keenum was called to the scene of the traffic stop to pick up her children, who had been in the vehicle with Goodwin.

Agents obtained a warrant and performed a search on Keenum's vehicle after her questioning. Agents discovered items they said were consistent with a "shake-and-bake" style meth lab.

Goodwin was arrested and charged with one count of manufacturing of a controlled substance and one count of felony possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $35,000 bond.

Keenum was arrested and charged with felony possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $10,000.

Sheriff Mitchell said charges could be upgraded when the case is presented to a grand jury.
