Felony traffic stop leads to arrest

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A man has been arrested following a felony traffic stop at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 13th Street on Wednesday.

Lieutenant Ronald Hastings with the Columbus Police Department tells us the man was driving a car that was reported stolen in July.

The Marshall's office initiated the arrest after recognizing the stolen 2008 Mitsubishi Galant on Buena Vista Road heading towards Wynnton Road. The Columbus Police Department assisted in arresting the suspect.

After a felony traffic stop involving several officers with guns drawn, the driver was taken into custody and transported to the Muscogee County Jail.

Lt. Hastings said officers are trying to determine if the driver is the suspect who actually stole the car. At this time, his identity has not been released.

No shots were fired, and no one was injured.

Officers are still investigating this case.
