Military Matters: Merrill's Marauders honored

Posted: Updated:

Our Military Matters this week is about durability during warfare.

Merrill's Marauders is an Army unit that walked nearly 1,000 miles in search of the enemy during World War II. They were honored recently on the 70th anniversary of their unit disbanding.

The soldiers walked farther than any other fighting force during the war, and 96-year-old Vincent Melilo was right there with them. He is pictured with replacement soldier Stanley Sastine.

Only 50 of the original Marauders are left out of the 3,000 that fought in the China-Burma-India Theater.
