AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Law enforcement in east Alabama are warning residents of a new jury duty scam.
It has been reported that a man is calling homes saying his name is lieutenant McAllen or Mack Allen with the lee county sheriff's office.
He tells citizens they have missed jury duty and asks them to pay a $1,500 fine with a prepaid debit card.
Lee County wants to reiterate they do not address jury duty issues by phone and warn to never give out personal information to a stranger over the phone.
The Lee County sheriff's office has also received numerous calls expressing concerns in reference to a potential purge this week, but the sheriff says the threats are not credible.
