(WTVM) - Columbus city leaders are asking residents to support the local economy by doing business locally this week.
Today is "Support Locals Day," and it's all part of Small Business Week, which kicked off Monday.
Their mission is to get people to shop at local businesses to keep dollars and jobs local.
Local business owners say community support is very important to the growth of their business.
"It is hard work opening a business, keeping it open," said Larae Baptist, sales manager for Tastee Cookie Company. "It's even harder to open a business, keep it open and not have anybody come in and support you more than word of mouth. The money is important, but so is the friendship, the community and the relationship."
The Tastee Cookie Company is doing a special deal this week: buy three cookies, get three free.
