The Troy Trojans dropped their season opener to the UAB Blazers by a score of 48-10.

The Trojans entered the game with a three game win streak, and had been victorious over the Blazers in four of the past five match ups.

After finishing the 2013 season with a record of 6-6, the Trojans looked to get back to their winning ways and return to the top of the Sun Belt Conference standings.

The biggest test for the Trojans however was replacing quarterback Corey Robinson.

As reflected by Saturdays score, the Trojans still have a lot of kinks to workout in the offense.

The Trojans started the game off with a five play, 75-yard drive that only took 1:29 off the clock. The biggest play of the drive was a 41-yard pass from Brandon Silvers to Chandler Worthy that got the Trojans to the UAB 34-yard-line. There was also a personal foul penalty on the play which helped the Trojans get to the UAB 19-yard-line.

Four plays later, Jordan Chunn rushed for one-yard for the touchdown to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead.

After that though, it was all UAB.

The Blazers answered the Trojans opening drive touchdown with a touchdown of their own.

The Blazers first drive was a 12 play, 69 yard drive capped off by a Jordan Howard 2-yard run that took 4:32 off the clock.

The problems then started for the Trojans as on their second drive, Chunn fumbled the ball at the Troy 45-yard-line. UAB recovered the ball and only needed six plays for another Blazer touchdown. That put UAB up 14-7 over the Trojans.

On their next drive, the Trojans were forced to punt after going three-and-out, only gaining one yard of offense on the drive.

The Blazers marched down the field once again, but two incomplete passes on second and third down led the Blazers to kick a field goal making the score 17-7.

On the ensuing drive, the Trojans were making their way down the field until two consecutive sacks on quarterback Brandon Silvers forced Troy to punt the ball away.

The Blazers were able to capitalize on the stop with a seven play, 81-yard touchdown drive that was capped off by a 18-yard passing play from Blazer quarterback Cody Clements to receiver Kennard Backman. This made the score 24-7 in favor of the Blazers.

On the Trojans' next drive, the offense got into the red zone once again but after the drive stalled, Troy kicker Ryan Kay missed a 29-yard field goal attempt.

Troy was able to stop the Blazers on the ensuing drive, and forced UAB to punt which was downed at the UAB 41.

The Trojans were able to set up a 47-yard field goal, which Ryan Kay was able to convert as the half ended.

In the second half, the Trojan offense continued to struggle as they did not record a single point in the entire half.

The third quarter started off in the Trojans' favor as Troy was able to force a fumble on the Blazer's first play from scrimmage. The fumble was forced by Jacquez Young and recovered by Tyler Roberts.

The Trojans, however, were not able to capitalize on the turnover as they punted the ball away seven plays later.

The Trojan defense came up big again as Montres Kitchens intercepted Cody Clements pass and returned it to the UAB 47-yard-line.

The offense, however, was unable to capitalize once again as they were forced to punt after going three and out.

The Blazers then struck again with a 55-yard run by Jordan Howard, which increased UAB's lead by a score of 31-10.

On the ensuing drive, the Trojans went for it on fourth down, only needing one yard, but were unable to gain the needed yard and turned the ball over on downs at their own 34-yard-line.

The Blazers were able to take advantage of the short yardage situation and scored another touchdown on a Clements' quarterback keeper. That put the Blazers up 38-10 over the Trojans.

The offensive struggle continued as the Trojans once again went three and out, unable to gain a single yard on their next drive.

UAB added another field goal and touchdown to their total in the fourth quarter to make the final score 48-10 in the win over Troy.

Troy averaged 463 yards a game in 2013 on offense, but was only able to record 272 yards on Saturday.

Troy was led offensively by quarterback Brandon Silvers who went 16-for-23 with 153 yards. Brandon Burks led the running game with 42-yards on eight attempts. The next closest rusher was quarterback Dontreal Pruitt with 18-yards.

Chandler Worthy was the leading receiver with 46-yards on two receptions. His first reception was good for 41-yards in the first drive of the game.

Troy has a lot of work to do before their next match up on Sept. 6 when the Duke Blue Devils come to Veterans Memorial Stadium.
