1 dead, 1 wounded in south Phoenix shooting

PHOENIX (AP/CBS5) -

Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly opened fire outside a south Phoenix home, leaving one man dead and a woman injured.

A police sergeant on patrol near 40th Street and Southern Avenue heard multiple gunshots around 3:15 a.m., Phoenix Officer James Holmes said.

Holmes said the sergeant discovered a man and a woman hurt in a front yard.

Officers said the 35-year-old man, who was shot in the torso, later died at a hospital. The 28-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to her upper arm and is expected to survive.

Police said the couple and a third person arrived at the home in a car when the male victim got into an argument with two men.

They say one or both of the men shot at the victims.
