TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A man who pointed a handgun at police was shot by a Tucson Police officer and later died on Wednesday, according to police.

TPD said Tucson Fire crews tried to revive the 56-year-old man but were unsuccessful. It was not disclosed whether the man died at the scene or at the hospital.

No police were hurt in the incident, which happened shortly after 9 a.m. in the 2800 block of East Glenn Street. Glenn is closed from North Treat Avenue to North Country Club Road.

According to the source, police were responding to a call about a potentially suicidal man. When police made contact with him in a Nissan Altima, he allegedly raised his weapon and pointed it at police. No other details about the shooting or the suspect were given.

The street closure is expected to last several hours.
