COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Candidates are now undergoing rigorous tests in hopes of becoming Columbus firefighters.
All state-certified firefighters are also required to complete 240 hours of annual re-certification training.
Chief Tim Smith told us more about Wednesday's activities at the Civic Center.
"It represents eight functions that you'd be expecting to do as a firefighter on the firegrounds," said Chief Smith. "So what we're doing is testing candidates to make sure they meet the standards that we require and this will be the first step once they go through this program and they pass then they'll move on to the second step of the hiring process."
The training continues on into the weekend.
