A Columbus business owner is helping students in need

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus business owner is doing her part to help needy kids as well as teachers in the Muscogee County school district.

Amy Carver Haynes, the owner of "The Social" a club and restaurant in uptown Columbus, is collecting food items, gift cards, money, and anything that will help needy kids in the area.

For many children, a school lunch is their only meal of the day and Haynes is hoping to address some of that need.

"Always knew eat up there but never knew that we had over 1000 homeless kids homeless in our community just in Muscogee County. Whatever is lacking in our community we are trying to fill that needs through donations of different people," says Haynes.

Haynes says today alone more than $5,000 in supplies and money were collected to help students and teachers in Muscogee County. She says her fundraising efforts will continue throughout the school year.
