Columbus church hosts Big Hat Brunch for upcoming 114th anniversary

Big hats, jazzy hats and sassy hats were all on display at Fourth Street Baptist Church in Columbus on Sept. 21.

On Saturday afternoon, women adorned themselves in some beautiful hats worn especially for the church's Big Hat Brunch. The event was held as a precursor to the church's 114th church anniversary next Sunday, Sept. 28.

The theme was a caring, sharing and fruit-bearing fellowship.

"When it started out it was an idea to help raise funds for the church for our mission bound efforts but it has evolved," said event organizer Ora Peters. "We've been able to continue it and then we just raise the funds and whatever we bring in its in efforts towards our church anniversary each year."

Pastor J.H. Flakes III, First Lady Jackie Flakes, and First Lady Emeritus Robena Flakes (wife of the late Pastor Emeritus J.H. Flakes Jr.) were all honorees of the event.

News Leader 9's Roslyn Giles was the guest speaker.
