51st annual Shrine Circus raises money for sick children

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The 51st annual Shrine Circus went off with a bang over the weekend at the Columbus Civic Center!

Families from across the valley enjoyed the show with clowns, acrobat tricks, and exotic animals. All net profits from the event go to the Columbus-Fort Benning Shrine Club.

We spoke with Mark Cantrell, the circus director, on how this helps sick children across the nation.

"The Shriners have got 32 Shriners hospitals across America and this is one of the ways that we try and help out ourselves as far as helping out the community," Cantrell explained. "51 years we've been doing this so a lot of kids come out and enjoy it, we're just proud to have all the families. It's a wonderful family show and another great year."

Our sister station WXTX Fox 54 was a sponsor, and our Semone Doughton was Sunday night's ringmaster.
