COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The two suspects believed to be responsible for the shooting on Valley Crest Drive appeared in court the morning of September 22.
In a twist, one of the suspects was actually the person shot.
News Leader 9's Jenyne Donaldson was in court for the preliminary hearing.
Calvonte Grimes and Deschaune Jemison appeared in Recorder's Court on Monday morning, accused of carrying out a robbery plot that took an unexpected turn.
Police say Grimes and Jemison planned to steal a gun from Anthony Peterson. Jemison lured Peterson into the woods where Grimes was waiting, armed with a handgun. During the robbery, Peterson was able to pull his gun, shoot Grimes, and run away.
Grimes waived his hearing and was given a $25,000 bond for aggravated assault. Jemison pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery and was given a $5,000 bond.
Both of their cases now head to Superior Court.
Anthony Peterson did not appear in court; he bonded out for $250 for possession of a handgun by a person under 18.
