Groundbreaking ceremony held for new Auburn hotel

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The city of Auburn will soon be home to a new hotel, the Auburn Courtyard Marriott.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday morning in its new location at 2420 West Pace Boulevard near Exit 51 on Interstate 85.

The new Marriott will have 111 rooms, a bistro restaurant serving freshly brewed Starbucks coffee, a pool, and 24-hour business center.

The city looks forward to the number of jobs the hotel will bring and for a boost in tourism.

"The folks at the Marriott recognize the demand that is out there," said Auburn Mayor Bill Ham. "This is so close to two, really three, of our technology parks, with international customers and a lot of business traveling and certainly pleasure."

Construction is set to be completed for the 2015 football season.

Additionally, the new Phenix City Courtyard Marriott is set to open its doors this week.
