COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Thirty Columbus State University students helped fix the house of a veteran widow on Sept. 27 for their first Cougar Service Day.
The volunteers helped paint, clean and do repairs on the house of Carolyn Thompson, the widow of John Thompson.
Each month, CSU picks a different non-profit organization to help in the community.
"CSU has been doing day of service now for the past six years and we wanted to do more for the community," said Anne Brown with the volunteer programs at CSU.
"I'm just in awe and I know my husband's up there enjoying the day too, thank you," Thompson said.
Saturday's project is also part of the 12 houses in 12 weeks that the House of Heroes has planned to renovate leading up to Thanksgiving.
The Thompson house is the fifth house out of 12.
