Annual Hope for Autism Walk and Family Day coming up Oct. 11

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The annual Hope for Autism Walk and Family Day is a fun community event that supports Chattahoochee Valley families affected by autism.

The event includes a one-mile family friendly walk, loads of exciting activities (petting zoo, hayride, climbing wall, bouncy castle, stilt walkers and more!), arts and crafts, food, and autism resources.

The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at North Highland Church in Columbus.

This event benefits The Autism Hope Center and Support Group and all proceeds will stay here in the Chattahoochee Valley, where an estimated 2,000 individuals are affected by autism. Participation provides you an opportunity to support these local families.

The Autism Hope Center will use proceeds to provide Family Support Grants so local families can receive consultations, specializing training, and community seminars on critical topics such as in-home respite care, life stage transitions, coordinating service agencies, and effective parenting of children with special needs.

Autism Hope Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. If you require a tax letter, please ask our staff at event check-in.

Below is additional information to help you plan for the event.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at autismhopecenterllp@gmail.com.

What if I cannot attend the event but want to support the cause?

For those who cannot attend the event but want to support families with autism, please visit www.eventbrite.com and make a donation to the event. You can donate as an individual or you can make a donation to a particular team (see information on Teams below). You can also purchase event t-shirts for $10.

Teams: We encourage walkers to register as part of a team. Prizes will be given to the team with the most walkers, as well as the team who raises the most money*. Many teams have already formed in honor of an individual with Autism. These teams are eagerly recruiting walkers and donations…so get started and good luck!

*Remember, family and friends can donate to your team without registering to walk. They just go to www.eventbrite.com, click "join a team", search your team's name, and click on "additional donations".

Family Day Activities:

We are excited that the 2014 Annual Hope for Autism Walk and Family Day has a lot of new and exciting activities to offer- thanks to our generous community sponsors! Families will enjoy free food and music as well as a petting zoo, hayride, climbing wall, bouncy castle, face painting, arts and crafts stations, games, and appearances by stilt walkers, hulahoopers, firemen, and more!

Autism Resources: Many exhibitors will be present to answer questions and hand out useful information to families.
