COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Georgia Gubernatorial candidate, State Senator Jason Carter stomped through Columbus not only for his campaign, but to speak at this year's Jefferson-Jackson Gala.
Senator Carter was the keynote speaker for the event talking mostly about education and having an honest government.
Carter is going up against incumbent governor Nathan Deal in November's election. He tells News Leader 9 he was happy to bring his message to the people of Columbus.
"I don't intent to be the governor of Atlanta. I am going to be the governor of entire state of Georgia, Columbus is incredibly important to me and there is a huge amount the Columbus offers," says Carter.
Tonight's affair, sponsored by the Muscogee County Democratic party, brought out several city leaders including Columbus mayor Teresa Tomlinson, city manager Isaiah Hugley and local author Billy Winn, who were all honored as recipients of the representative Jack Brinkley Senior Lifetime Service award.
