PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Phenix City Council approved a lease agreement to construct a transmission tower with the Russell County Water Authority.
The 200-foot structure will be a major component of the city's nearly $4 million new radio system and will overhaul the city's communication infrastructure for first responders.
Mayor Eddie Lowe says it's something the city is in need of.
"This is something that we really need because safetyness is number one," Mayor Lowe said. "You know, money is important as we always know and we have to watch the bottom line, but what's really important than that is the safetyness of the citizens of Phenix City."
Mayor Lowe says the cost of the tower was included in the original proposal, and he expects the tower to be completed in the next few months.
