Columbus churches come together for Prayer Walk

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Tonight, October 7, several Columbus churches came together to walk and pray for the Columbus community.

This evening's prayer walk was orchestrated by the Word of Truth Ministries and members from four other churches on the city's south side. Several people turned out to meet for prayer at the church and then set out to walk through the community surrounding Fort Benning Road.

Pastor Christopher Smith, of Word of Truth Ministries, says the message he wants to give is that the church cares and is available for support during the good times and the bad.

"The murders, the assaults, the prostitution, we're over here at night and we see it all. So we want to just get out in the street and be active and give them another avenue. Let them know that somebody cares and there's a better answer than killing each other. We speak highly on cops killing our children but what about the black on black crime? I think the rate for that is higher than the cops killing us, so what are we gonna do about that," says Smith.

This evening's walk covered Winston Road, Benning Drive, Yeoman Street, and others in the area. It kicked off a tent revival that will take place tomorrow night, October 8, at 7 PM and will last through Saturday, October 11.
