COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Muscogee County Coroner's office has confirmed the name of the homeless woman who was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident Wednesday night in an effort find next of kin.
The victim has been confirmed as 55-year-old Eyiloni Bonner, and the coroner's office released her name to identify next-of-kin.
Bonner died after she was struck by a vehicle on 24th Street and 2nd Avenue in Columbus at about 6 p.m. Wednesday. She was pronounced dead at about 6:32 p.m. at Midtown Medical Center.
According to the incident report, Bonner's last address was listed as the Homeless Resource Network. The report also indicated she was fatally hit when the driver of a 2003 Ford Expedition hit the woman.
The incident occurred when the driver, traveling north on 2nd Avenue at 24th Street, struck Bonner who walking approximately 75 feet north on 24th Street.
The driver said she never saw the pedestrian in the road, and witness stated the same thing.
After the accident, the stretch of 2nd Avenue between 23rd and 24th Streets was closed. The coroner has ruled the manner of death an accident.
