NEW YORK (WTVM) - The infamous "Cowardly Lion" costume from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz sold for just over $3 million at a New York City auction.
The lion costume was sold at Hollywood memorabilia auction store Bonhams on Monday.
This costume was the one actor Bert Lahr wrote in the 1939 film, and its face is a sculpted likeness of the late actor.
In recent years, a spokesman for the costume owner says a secondary costume used in the film sold at an auction in recent years for nearly $1 million.
James Comisar, the owner of the auction store, plans to use the money for the costume sale to exhibit his entire collection, which includes several items from film and TV lore.
