COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Thanksgiving came early for some needy families in Columbus as the brothers of Omega Psi Phi rolled up their sleeves and served them dinner.
About 25 families from Columbus and Phenix City were served turkey and all the fixings Tuesday night, courtesy of the Lambda Iota chapter of Omega Psi Phi.
In the past, the fraternity has given out Thanksgiving baskets each year to those in need across the valley. This year was the first time they actually served a sit-down meal.
"That's a part of helping out the community, doing our community service each and every year," said Howard Galloway, who served as the dinner's chairman. "We do this for Thanksgiving and Christmas, it's an ongoing thing that the fraternity has been doing for years. Giving back to the community, that's what we're all about, that's one of our ongoing things, it's one of our mandated programs, and we always give back to the community each and every year."
The Omegas also plan to do another service project to help those in need at Christmas.
