Installment ceremony held for new local NAACP president

Installment ceremony held Thursday for new local

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - The Phenix City Russell County NAACP is preparing to welcome a new president.

The installment ceremony for Michael Sterling was held Thursday, Dec. 4, at Higher Power Outreach Church located in Phenix City.

"It's an honor to be elected president," said the Phenix City native. "You know I have over 50 years associated with the NAACP and in a former president in the state of Missouri and also I coordinated six other branches in Missouri."

Sterling says one of his plans is to be in alignment with the NAACP at the national level.

On that note, Sterling explained the local chapter continues to follow the organization's mandate when it comes to electing new officials.

Sterling will officially begin his new position in January 2015. He says he wants to ensure that the NAACP assumes a more active role in the Phenix City community.
