COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - There was special recognition Monday night for the Muscogee County School Board and some longtime members who won't be there anymore.
The group has been named a "2014 Distinguished Board" by the Georgia School Boards Association.
The Muscogee County School Board were also busy making appointments of a chief financial officer, a new director of the Columbus Museum, and more.
This was also the final meeting for board members Cathy Williams, who wasn't able to make it, as well as Beth Harris, and John Wells, who has served on the school board for 28 years.
"It's a lot of blood, sweat and tears. John was always there for the students, teachers," said Nancy Rinn, former Muscogee County School Board member. "His major focus was to have as many students have the quality education and be able to graduate, have that diploma."
In the last election, the voters of Muscogee County chose John Thomas to replace John Wells on the school board. Other newcomers include Frank Myers.
