NEW YORK (WTVM) - Time magazine has announced that the Ebola fighters are the Time's Person of The Year for 2014. 

The announcement was made Wednesday morning in New York. Time Magazine's Person of The Year issues will hit newsstands this Friday. 

The last time a group of people were named Person of the Year was 2011 when The Protesters were selected for their actions in the Middle East during the Arab Spring in Egypt. 

The rest of the top 5 short list include: 

2. The Ferguson Protesters

3. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia  

4. Massoud Barzani, Kurdish fighter leader

5. Jack Ma, Founder of Alibaba
