Man accused of killing girlfriend's daughter found guilty

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The Auburn man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter in 2012 has been found guilty of felony murder.

Prosecutors say Ramiro Delreal-Contreras got frustrated and angry with his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter, so he stomped her, causing her intestine to tear in half in May 2012.

Delreal-Contreras told police he did not tell anyone because he thought Ava would get better.

We spoke to Assistant D.A. Jessica Ventiere on this emotional case about the guilty verdict.

"Very happy with the verdict this a tough case for the jury, all court personnel. Anytime a child dies it's hard for anyone involved with case," Ventiere said. "This was probably the hardest case of my career and I pray I never have another case like it."

Delreal-Contreras did not take the stand in his own defense.

His sentencing will take place on Feb. 11, 2015.
