COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Lions Arena Football team collected more than 300 toys and over 1600 canned goods for families this holiday season.
The items were stacked into large bins and picked up by the Valley Rescue mission today.
Head Coach Jason Gibson says he was overwhelmed by how much the community donated.
"The word spread really fast and the phone started ringing and the bins started filling up. I went back in the locker room and saw all of these bins here loaded down with food. I really realized how much it was when I was asked to move one of them and I could move it," Gibson said.
This was the first year The Columbus Lions have held this drive and say they hope to top it next year.
