COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals hosted its third annual silent art auction "Time for Art".
The event took place December 17 at Columbus State University's Department of Art.
This is the first event of its kind nationwide.
Event organizers say it's a unique way to raise awareness of the local art community while also raising volunteer hours for worthy organizations or recruiting volunteers.
This is how the silent art auction worked.
"It works just like silent auction but instead of bidding with funds you are bidding with your times. We'll go around each of the art pieces to see which piece raise most hours and that bidder take the piece home after they complete hours of service for the 30 agencies here," says Crystal Trawic of the Young Professionals.
In 2013, this event raised more than two thousand service hours for several organizations in the Columbus region.
Artists participated in this drive by donating their work or volunteer hours.
