Local fraternity chapter holds toy drive for families in need

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The local chapter of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity held its annual toy donation Tuesday night.

Every year the Department of Family and Children Services gives the fraternity the names of 10 families in need during Christmas.

The toys are collected through donations from local organizations and other fraternity brothers.

The toy drive was held at the fraternity house on Steam Mill Road and has been happening for more than 15 years.

"It's just amazing to see how the kids' faces light up when they see how many toys they are getting," said Charles Alexander, president of the Lambda Iota Chapter. "I'm not from a rich family and remember as a kid looking under the tree and seeing one or two toys and that made me happy."

Alexander says this goes along with his fraternity's values of helping others.
