(WTVM) – Chrysler Group is recalling nearly 67,000 trucks with manual transmissions to fix clutch ignition interlock switches.
The recall is for 2006-2007 Dodge Dakota, Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, and Mitsubishi Raider pickups. Of these recalls, around 55,000 are believed to be in the U.S. The recall only involves vehicles with manual transmissions.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating an accident involving the death of a child who was in a parked and running truck. The child inside the vehicle turned the ignition switch that was still in gear. The truck moved forward without the clutch pedal being pushed in and ran over another child, killing them.
Dodge will replace the switches at no cost to consumers.
